PHIXER for Film / TV: LoRo fold-down, ADR, and stems delivery

Trailer beds and FX stems sound huge in the suite. On a LoRo fold, hotel TV, or phone check, bass thins, impacts hollow, and music beds lose weight under dialogue. ADR stacks and stem deliveries can cancel the same way. That is fold-down physics and multi-take phase, not a broken limiter. Free phase-repair helps after polarity and timing. It is not an LtRt encoder, and it does not replace a true mono / LoRo listen.

PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux) from Riverflux Audio. Frequency-aware phase rotation for leftover L/R fights on stereo material. It is not a loudness processor, not an LtRt encoder, and not a substitute for polarity, timing, or a real mono/LoRo check. Use it after hygiene, when residual spectral cancellation remains on stereo beds, FX prints, or dialogue stacks you must keep stereo.

Three film / TV failure modes this page covers

Fast LoRo / mono audition (about 60 seconds)

  1. Sum L+R (or your facility LoRo monitor path). Listen under dialogue and alone.
  2. A/B music bed and FX with dialogue muted vs open. Note what disappears: chest, impact body, vocal mid.
  3. On dual-path dialogue (lav+boom, dual take, printed ADR stack): mute one path briefly. Note which path thins the fold.
  4. Confirm on a phone speaker or hotel-TV-like mono path, then again on the delivery stems, not only the session master.

Honest order of fixes (before spectral phase rotation)

1. True mono / LoRo listen

Facility LoRo path or a hard L+R sum. Full habit: mono check workflow and null-test + mono-check.

2. Polarity if a path flips

Interfaces, field recorders, and some DSP invert. Flip Ø when body returns immediately. Guide: when not to use PHIXER (polarity first).

3. Timing / align before spectral tools

ADR comps and lav+boom need sample-accurate alignment first. Spectral rotation is not a substitute for a few ms of delay.

4. Prefer mono-safe delivery for beds and stems

Keep critical low-mid energy correlated. Put width in sides that survive fold. Related: LoRo fold-down and stem delivery.

5. Only then audition residual L/R spectral fights

If a printed stereo music bed, FX stem, or dialogue stack must stay stereo and fold still hollows a band after the steps above, gentle frequency-aware phase rotation can help. Prove it with mono A/B. Watch the YouTube tutorial and the mono demo.

When NOT to use PHIXER here

Quick path: LoRo / mono listen → one hero dialogue path → polarity if a path flips → align ADR / lav+boom → mute fighting stereo width under VO → phone or hotel-TV check → PHIXER only for leftover stereo cancellation on beds or stems → confirm again on the delivery stems.
